Assists the Police Chief with departmental supervision, budget preparation, spending, and administrative work; assists with decisions in unusual situations as circumstances permit; acts as Police Chief in his absence. Performs initial investigations on citizen complaints of police officers. If further investigation is needed it is assigned to the appropriate supervisor or other agency to be investigated further. Meets with assigned personnel to determine and assure progress in field operations, investigations, and other activities of the department. Assists in and supervises investigations of major cases; participates in investigations, as necessary. Assists in the hiring and promotional process including conducting and participating in interviews.
Performs other related work as necessary or assigned by the Police Chief.

Successful applicants must be able to be certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission and pass alcohol/drug test medical exams.
Position requires a high school diploma or GED. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s license (CDL).
Essential Duties and Tasks: Back up to drive trash truck to collect refuse and trash, collects brush & yard debris; operates flatbed and dump trucks; operates a chain saw to cut trees and limbs. Work involves a variety of tasks and assists other crews as needed. Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force. Salary range depends upon qualification.

Performs statutory Town Clerk responsibilities, prepares agendas and related materials, preparation of board minutes; serves as custodian of official town records; prepares notices and legal advertisements; provides administrative support to Town Manager, Finance Officer, and Board of Commissioners; maintains and processes all document for payroll; thorough knowledge of NC General Statues and local ordinances governing municipal and the statutory role of Clerk; considerable knowledge of automation, possess great organizational skills, possess the ability to prioritize workload, the ability to retain the knowledge to complete all assignments, technology, and techniques in supporting administrative and office management function. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, departmental heads, governmental officials, and other town employees. Desirable education is an Associate's degree in Accounting or Business and considerable experience in public administration. Applicant must be able to obtain Municipal Clerk Certification and possess a valid NC Driver License.
